If anything, asset reuse got worse, I think there might still be VC2 maps in VC3, even. Valkyria Chronicles 3 doesn't completely solve these issues. This one is very much a personal opinion, but what's the deal with fencers and armored techs? Why do they exist? They seem mostly useless. Cosette and Zeri feel like they're there only as foils or companions for Avan, and Avan is a pretty stock character himself with no apparent notable qualities besides a stupid laugh and reckless amounts of reality-denying optimism.ĥ) Dumb classes. Welkin, Alicia, Isara, Rosie and Largo all felt like characters with their own agendas and personalities even the main cast in VC2 don't ever feel like they quite meet the same standard. But VC2's characters definitely feel less grounded than VC1, and fit more neatly into cliches or stock stereotypes. This one's going to be a matter of debate, and is tied to people going back and forth over whether VC2 is more "anime" than VC1. This seemed to be an intentional part of the game design, since side missions were fairly short and endlessly repeatable, but it became a boring slog if you wanted to level up most of your characters.Ĥ) More trope-y characters. These items were distributed AT RANDOM, so you could be left with characters unable to advance for many missions just because the game's RNG wouldn't drop the last stupid certificate you needed. My memory is foggy here, but in order to advance characters to different classes, you had to earn certain certificates and other items from side missions.
Great, right? Except they also removed the concept of classes all upgrading at once, and put back in the concept of individual characters progressing at different rates.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 introduced a bunch of new classes. Overall, it detracted from the sense of being on a grand battlefield.ģ) Grindy progression. So the fact that there are only so many maps really hurts, especially combined with the first point about maps feeling very small and splintered. VC2 doesn't work that way you're essentially encouraged to replay maps over and over, far more than VC1's skirmishes. Almost every chapter in the original Valkyria Chronicles got its own map. I think this especially hurt tank play, because by and large there just weren't many places for your tank to go.Ģ) Asset reuse. But a lot of people didn't like how levels that would be one big area before were suddenly split up and shrunk into three or four tiny segments connected via resupply bases.

I actually kind of like how the gameplay changed in the PSP games, as there's a certain amount of pleasure in having to move troops between map segments and making sure you've got troops in the areas you need them. 3.Okay, so besides the high school academy thing, which I agree was completely awful and caused a huge amount of dissonance between "war is awful and destroys everything you love" and "oh don't you love our wonderful knitting class I got this wool from Dufour Farms!":ġ) Technical limitations. There's action, drama, laughs, boss fights, LAN multiplayer, mini-games, collectibles and much more to be enjoyed in Daxter, making it an absolute must-play for the PSP enthusiast.

Still, the visual and gameplay fidelity of Daxter on such a teensy, portable console was mega impressive at the time, and the title still holds up today as a big, premium action-adventure with a tonally consistent story deserving of the Jak & Daxter branding.
If you've never played a Jak & Daxter game before (shame on you), then that sentence might as well be gibberish to your ears, making this an experience catered to franchise fans above all else. Taking place at the beginning of Jak 2, Ready at Dawn's offbeat open-world platformer/shooter chronicles the adventures of wisecracking ocelot Daxter as he attempts to save his buddy Jak from the clutches of Baron Praxis.
